Trust & Safety

We combine review before publication, milestone-based fund controls and reporting tools to support safer participation on cohero. This policy explains the limits of those protections, how to recognise risks and how Dreamers and Backers can seek help without treating a backing as a guaranteed outcome.

1. Our approach to trust and safety

cohero is operated by Fenkil Technologies LTD to help people share personal dreams and receive support toward milestones. A Dreamer seeks money for a goal, and a Backer gives money to support that goal; the same account can do both. Our approach combines review before publication, milestone controls, user reporting and proportionate enforcement, rather than promising that every interaction is safe or every dream will succeed.

Trust is a shared responsibility, but a report is never a reason to blame someone who has experienced harm. We ask Dreamers to describe their plans honestly and Backers to make considered choices without pressure. We use the information available to us to address risks, while recognising that misleading conduct may not be apparent from a profile, a photograph or an apparently friendly conversation.

Users must be at least 18 years old, use their real identity and maintain only one account per person. Impersonation, invented beneficiaries, coordinated deception and attempts to evade restrictions undermine the protections described here. Read this policy with the Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, Backing & Gift Policy, Dreamer Rules and Privacy Policy; it explains safety practices and does not replace those documents.

Our review and enforcement are platform processes, not professional advice, insurance or a certification of a person’s character. We do not guarantee the accuracy of every statement, the suitability of a dream for you or recovery of money already released. If you are uncertain about a material claim, do not back or release funds until you have enough information to make your own decision.

2. Review before a dream goes live

Every dream is reviewed by our team before it is published in the swipe feed. A dream moves through draft, pending review, live or rejected status; a private draft is not approval to solicit support. We assess the submission against our rules and may ask for clarification, reject it, or hide or remove a dream when concerns arise, including after publication.

Review considers the dream description, its milestones and the material submitted with it. A dream goal must equal the sum of its milestones, and the plan should explain what each stage is intended to achieve. Specific, realistic milestones make it easier for Backers to evaluate progress, but neither a plausible plan nor publication establishes that the Dreamer will achieve the outcome.

Approval is not a background check, a guarantee that all facts have been independently verified, or an endorsement of medical, financial or other specialist claims. Photos and documents can be incomplete, altered or taken out of context. Do not treat popularity, a polished presentation, an online indicator or a sympathetic story as proof that a claim is true.

Dreamers must correct material inaccuracies and must not use updates or chat to make claims that would have caused the published dream to be rejected. If a change materially affects what Backers understood, explain it clearly rather than quietly substituting a different purpose. Backers should report significant inconsistencies and ask focused questions without demanding excessive personal information.

3. Milestone escrow and its limits

Backings are voluntary, unconditional gifts of support, not investments, shares, loans, purchases or donations to a registered charity. They are generally not tax-deductible and do not confer ownership, profit share, interest, repayment or rewards. Fenkil Technologies LTD provides the platform and holds funds per milestone; it is not a party to the gift and does not guarantee that a dream succeeds.

Money from each backing is held by the platform and allocated across the dream’s milestones in order. The Dreamer submits proof, which may include photographs, documents and a description, and milestones must be proven in order. Each Backer reviews the proof and decides whether to release their own share for that milestone or request more information.

If a Backer does not release a milestone within 14 days after its proof was submitted, that Backer’s unreleased money for that milestone and all later milestones is returned automatically. Requesting more information is not a release and should not be assumed to pause or restart that window. Check the submission date, review promptly and do not rely on a chat promise to preserve funds beyond the applicable window.

Released money is paid out to the Dreamer and is final: it cannot be refunded through the milestone process. Administrators can return a dream’s unreleased funds, including for fraud, a rules breach or abandonment, but cannot make already released funds available again. Returns go to the original payment method where possible; your provider’s processing time may affect when you see the credit.

The 15% platform fee, called the backer deposit fee, is deducted from each backing and is never added on top of the amount the Backer chooses. It is non-refundable, including when unreleased funds are returned, so a return of remaining held funds is not a return of the original gross gift. The minimum backing is $5; charges are in USD, and any displayed conversions are approximate and may differ from your bank’s exchange rate or fees.

4. Anonymous backing and personal boundaries

You may back anonymously so that the Dreamer and the public do not see your identity. Administrators can see it for platform administration, safety and other legitimate purposes described in the Privacy Policy. Anonymous backing is not a promise of anonymity from the platform, lawful authorities or information you choose to disclose yourself.

Choosing to chat can disclose your identity to the person you contact. Your writing, profile details, photographs or references to events may also make you recognisable, even if you do not state your name. Before initiating a conversation, consider whether you are comfortable with the connection between your identity and the dream you supported.

Dreamers must not pressure anonymous Backers to identify themselves, publish guesses about their identity, or offer to reveal another person’s support history. A gift does not buy access to a Dreamer’s private life, attention, intimacy or personal contact details. Equally, a Dreamer must not imply that a Backer must provide further money or personal information to keep an existing gift confidential.

Only share information needed for the immediate purpose of the conversation or milestone review. Avoid sending home addresses, identification documents, medical records or financial account details to another user. If proof requires sensitive information, redact unrelated details before submission and consider whether a less revealing document could demonstrate the same milestone.

5. Staying safe in chat

A Backer can open a chat with a Dreamer from a dream, which also saves that dream. Chat includes real-time messages, a typing indicator, online status and read receipts marked Seen. These features help communication but do not establish identity, agreement or availability, and a read receipt is not consent to continued contact.

Keep early conversations within the platform so that you can use its blocking and reporting tools and preserve relevant context. Be cautious about immediately moving to private messaging, especially when the request is paired with urgency, secrecy or a request for money. Do not open unexpected attachments or enter account details on a website merely because a friendly chat partner sent the link.

Communicate about the dream and reasonable questions about its milestones without harassment or intrusive demands. Do not send threats, sexual pressure, discriminatory abuse, unwanted explicit material or repeated contact after someone asks you to stop. A person may disengage even if you have backed their dream or spent time helping them.

If a conversation becomes uncomfortable, stop replying, preserve the relevant context where safe, and use blocking or reporting. Do not threaten exposure, recruit others to contact the person or continue an argument in public. If you believe someone is manipulating you, you do not need to prove the entire scheme before asking our team to review a specific message or request.

6. Recognising scams and manipulation

Scams often combine an emotionally compelling story with a reason to act before you can check it. A single warning sign does not prove wrongdoing, but several together warrant particular caution. Pause, compare the request with the published dream and milestones, and do not let guilt or an artificial deadline substitute for evidence.

  • A request to pay outside cohero, use a different recipient, or pay an extra charge to unlock a milestone, payout, refund or supposed prize.
  • Promises of guaranteed returns, ownership, repayment, interest, exclusive rewards or tax deductions inconsistent with a gift of support.
  • Pressure to release a milestone before proof is provided, claims that review is unnecessary, or instructions to ignore the review window.
  • Photos or documents with inconsistent names, implausible dates, unexplained alterations or details that do not match the stated milestone.
  • A sudden emergency that repeatedly changes, secrecy about where money will go, or hostility when you ask reasonable questions.
  • An alleged staff member asking for your password, a sign-in code, remote control of your device or payment through a personal account.
  • Attempts to establish romance or dependency rapidly, followed by financial requests or threats to disclose private information.
  • Instructions to conceal the conversation from support, create another account, mislabel a transaction or help move money for someone else.

Check what can reasonably be checked without invading another person’s privacy. Ask how a document relates to the milestone, whether expenses are consistent with the plan, and why a change is necessary. Do not send money merely to recover a previous payment; recovery schemes often target people who have already suffered a loss.

If you suspect fraud, stop further payments and do not release additional milestone funds while you seek clarification. Report the dream, user or message and describe the discrepancy, including whether any funds have already been released. We can examine platform records and consider action, but we cannot promise a finding of fraud, identify every participant or recover money outside our control.

7. Never move payments off-platform

For your safety, keep all conversations and agreements on cohero. Never send or accept payments outside cohero, even if someone asks. This helps protect both Dreamers and Backers and gives us a record to review if something goes wrong. Keeping activity on cohero does not mean that we can guarantee the outcome of a dream or settle every disagreement between users, but the messages and payment records held on the platform can be considered when you report a concern.

Make all backings through the platform’s payment flow. Never send a transfer, cash, a redeemable code or another form of value directly to someone who says this will avoid fees or speed up protection. Outside payments are not allocated to our milestones and do not receive the platform’s review-and-release controls or automatic return process.

Dreamers must not ask Backers to bypass platform payments, and Backers must not propose off-platform arrangements as a condition of support. A chat agreement cannot turn an outside transfer into a protected backing or change a released payment into refundable funds. Report requests to route money through another person, pay a supposed verification charge or return an alleged overpayment by a different method.

Our payment partner handles card details, and cohero does not store full card numbers. Do not send full card numbers, security codes or online banking credentials in chat, a report or an email to support. If you believe your card or payment account has been compromised, contact your financial provider promptly as well as telling us about any connected platform activity.

Use the actual platform interface to check backing status rather than relying on a screenshot or a message claiming a payment succeeded. A payment dispute should be described accurately and handled through support and any rights available through your payment provider. Do not make knowingly false fraud claims or demand private repayment of money that remains held for milestone review.

8. Protecting your account

Access uses email and password sign-in. Choose a long, unique password that you do not use on any other service, and use a trusted password manager if suitable for you. Protect the email account associated with your profile too, since control of that mailbox may affect access to communications and account recovery.

We never ask for your password. Do not provide it to anyone claiming to be staff, a Dreamer, a Backer or a person investigating a report. A legitimate support conversation does not require you to disclose your password, and you should not send sign-in credentials or sensitive payment information as proof of ownership.

Phishing may imitate a dream approval, a new message, a backing notification or an urgent account warning. Check the destination before following a link, and open the platform directly when in doubt instead of using the link in an unexpected message. An email’s display name, familiar logo or convincing wording does not establish that it came from us; notices may be delivered through our email delivery provider.

Sign out on shared devices, keep your browser and device software current, and avoid saving credentials on a device you do not control. If you suspect unauthorised access, change your password through the platform if you can safely do so and contact hello@coheroapp.com. Tell us which changes or transactions you did not make, but do not send your old or new password.

Keep one account per person and do not share or transfer it to another individual. Account sharing makes it harder to determine who approved a release, sent a message or changed a dream. If you lose access, seek help rather than creating duplicate accounts to evade checks or impersonating another user to contact support.

9. Meeting in person

You are not required to meet another user to give or receive a backing, review a milestone or express thanks. A gift does not create an entitlement to an in-person meeting, a visit to someone’s home or a romantic relationship. Treat pressure to meet privately, travel urgently or keep a meeting secret as a reason to stop and reconsider.

If you independently choose to meet, take time to get comfortable with the person and choose a busy public place. Tell someone you trust where you are going, whom you expect to meet and when you plan to return. Arrange your own transport and a way to leave, keep your phone charged and avoid sharing your home or accommodation address unnecessarily.

Do not hand over money, identity documents or access to your device during a meeting. Keep control of your belongings, food and drinks, and avoid situations in which you cannot leave freely. If the location or plan changes unexpectedly, you can decline without explaining or negotiating, even after travelling or accepting an invitation.

We do not organise, supervise or guarantee the safety of meetings between users. Online familiarity and a live dream do not replace ordinary precautions, and a positive experience for one person is not a guarantee for another. If you feel threatened, leave if safe, seek local assistance and contact local emergency services when immediate help is needed.

10. Blocking and controlling contact

You can block another user using the platform’s blocking controls. Blocked users cannot message you, and their dreams are hidden from you. Blocking is a personal safety control rather than a decision by our team that a policy violation occurred; you can also report conduct if you want it reviewed.

Blocking is not a payment cancellation, a release of milestone funds or a refund request. Existing financial events remain subject to the Backing & Gift Policy and the review window, so check any pending milestone decisions separately. If blocking makes it difficult to understand an outstanding review, contact support promptly without assuming that the deadline has stopped.

Do not use a new account, another person’s profile or outside contact details to circumvent a block. Repeated attempts to reach someone who has blocked you may lead to further enforcement. If you believe a restriction was applied incorrectly, use support rather than testing ways around it or asking others to deliver unwanted messages.

Blocking cannot retract information another person has already seen, copied or saved. Avoid sharing sensitive material on the assumption that a later block will erase it everywhere. If someone threatens to publish your private information, report the threat and avoid sending more money or information in exchange for an assurance that it will remain private.

11. Reporting concerns and what happens next

You can report dreams, users and messages through the platform and contact hello@coheroapp.com if you cannot use the relevant control. Explain what happened, identify the relevant dream or account and point to specific messages, dates and milestones. Include only evidence you are entitled to share and redact unrelated personal information; do not obtain evidence by accessing someone else’s account.

Our team reviews reports in context, including the reported material and relevant account, payment or security records when necessary. We may ask the reporter or the reported person for clarification, assess connected conduct, and take interim action while information is incomplete. A report does not automatically establish a violation or require immediate removal; measures depend on the evidence, severity and risk of ongoing harm.

We prioritise apparent immediate threats, exploitation, serious fraud and other urgent safety risks, but reporting is not an emergency response service. We do not promise a fixed acknowledgement or resolution deadline; the time needed depends on urgency, complexity, evidence and the need for outside information. Send relevant new information on the existing matter where possible rather than filing duplicates, and do not wait for a reply if emergency help is needed.

Possible outcomes include no action, a request to correct content, removal or hiding of a dream, communication restrictions, account suspension or termination, and return of unreleased funds where appropriate. We may preserve records or refer a matter to competent authorities when legally required or justified. We cannot guarantee a refund, disclose another user’s private records or provide a detailed account of every investigative step.

We handle reports with discretion and limit access to people who need the information for review, safety, legal compliance or related support. We do not promise absolute confidentiality: context may make a reporter identifiable, and information may need to be shared to investigate fairly or comply with law. We aim to explain relevant decisions where appropriate without exposing private information or methods that could enable abuse.

If you believe a decision is mistaken, contact hello@coheroapp.com, identify the decision and explain what evidence or context should be reconsidered. Appeals are reviewed on their merits and may result in confirmation, modification or reversal; they do not automatically suspend protective measures or payment deadlines. Do not retaliate against someone you think reported you, and do not use reports to threaten, harass or suppress legitimate criticism.

12. Fraud prevention, logs and privacy

We record sign-ins, sign-outs, failed sign-ins, account changes, dream changes, reports and errors on our own servers. Records include IP addresses and device or browser type and support security, fraud prevention and assistance with account problems. These signals can help us understand an incident but are not infallible proof of identity or intent.

We may compare relevant activity to investigate suspected account takeover, coordinated manipulation, duplicate accounts, false proof or misuse of payments. Access to records should be limited to legitimate purposes described in the Privacy Policy, not personal curiosity or disclosure to other users. You can request a copy of your account history; information about others or sensitive security details may need to be protected when responding.

Uploaded photographs, videos and proof are stored privately and displayed through expiring or signed links. These controls reduce unrestricted access but cannot prevent an authorised viewer from taking a screenshot or copying information. Upload only what is necessary, obtain permission for material involving others and remove identifiers that do not help prove the milestone.

We do not sell personal data or use advertising trackers. Any analytics we use are self-hosted and privacy-friendly, and necessary cookies or local storage support functions such as sign-in, language and theme. The Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy explain these practices; a request to delete an account does not erase the legitimate rights of other participants or applicable recordkeeping obligations.

Account deletion starts in the profile and includes a 30-day grace period; signing in and choosing keep my account during that period cancels deletion. After that period, the account and personal data are deleted. Records that must be retained, including relevant backing, payment, refund and message records, are kept only in a form that no longer identifies the person, and as required by law for purposes such as accounting and fraud prevention.

13. Law enforcement requests and legal obligations

Authorities seeking information should contact hello@coheroapp.com and identify the requesting authority, legal basis, scope and relevant account or event as precisely as possible. We assess requests against applicable law and may seek clarification, require appropriate process or challenge requests that are deficient or overbroad. A request from a private individual to investigate another user is not a law enforcement request.

We disclose information only as permitted or required by applicable law and in accordance with the Privacy Policy. The availability of information depends on what we hold and applicable retention requirements; we cannot provide records we do not possess or promise to identify a person from limited technical data. We may preserve relevant records when legally required or otherwise lawfully justified.

Where lawful and appropriate, we may inform an affected user about a request, but notification may be prohibited, delayed or inappropriate because of safety risks or the integrity of an investigation. Reporting to us does not replace making a report to the appropriate authorities yourself. If you do so, keep your own lawful copies of relevant correspondence and transaction references without publicly exposing other people’s personal data.

14. Emergencies and wellbeing

If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services now. Do not rely on a platform report, email or chat to summon urgent assistance, because we do not operate an emergency dispatch service and cannot guarantee immediate monitoring. Give responders the location and facts you know, and follow their instructions rather than taking risks to gather more evidence.

If you or someone else may be experiencing a mental health crisis, seek appropriate local crisis support, a qualified professional or a trusted person who can help you reach care. A Dreamer’s account of illness or distress is not medical advice, and a backing is not a treatment arrangement. Never stop treatment or change prescribed care because another user promises a cure or says funding depends on doing so.

Financial pressure can make it difficult to step back from a compelling story. Back only what you can afford to give without expecting repayment, and do not borrow or sacrifice essentials because of guilt, romantic pressure or a promised future benefit. You may stop engaging without justifying your personal finances, and you can seek support from someone you trust before deciding whether to give.

Dreamers should not feel obliged to disclose trauma in graphic detail, provide unlimited personal access or tolerate abuse to receive support. Backers should not be made responsible for another user’s immediate safety through threats or coercive demands for funds. Report concerning conduct, but distinguish an honest request for help from a threat or manipulation and avoid public speculation about someone’s health.

15. Help for Dreamers and Backers

Dreamers can prepare a private draft for free, but publication requires an active monthly membership at $29. A membership is not a safety endorsement, priority clearance or a guarantee of backings. If membership lapses, dreams are hidden from the feed, while existing Backers and chat partners can still see them and milestone reviews continue; do not assume that a hidden dream ends your responsibilities.

Backers should review each milestone on its own evidence and ask for clarification within the applicable window rather than releasing funds to avoid an uncomfortable conversation. Dreamers should provide concise, authentic proof that shows the stage completed without disclosing unnecessary third-party information. For billing, gifts and publishing questions, consult Membership & Billing Terms, Backing & Gift Policy and Dreamer Rules respectively.

For safety questions, account concerns, help reporting or review of a decision, contact hello@coheroapp.com. Identify the issue and relevant account or dream without sending passwords or full payment credentials. If a disability or interface barrier prevents you from using a safety feature, explain the assistance you need; the Accessibility Statement provides additional information about access.

We may update this policy as risks, practices and legal requirements evolve. Material changes are notified in the app or by email in advance, and continued use constitutes acceptance as described in the Terms of Service. This policy is available in supported languages; the English version prevails in a conflict, without displacing mandatory rights that apply to you.
