Milestone plan for a pilot training dream in Boston

Milestones keep money and progress together. Backers fund the whole pilot training dream, but money is released one milestone at a time, only after you show proof.

Pilot training combines ground study, aircraft time and instructor availability. Structure the goal around training stages, with room for weather delays and additional practice before assessment.

Example milestone plan

An example plan for a pilot training dream with a goal of $45,000. Backers fund the whole goal, but each milestone's money stays held until you post the proof and Backers release it.

  1. Milestone 1

    $6,750 · 15%

    Start ground preparation

Post ground-course and initial lesson receipts, a training schedule and a redacted summary of your planned licence route.

  2. Milestone 2

    $13,500 · 30%

    Build instructed flight time

Share aircraft and instructor invoices alongside a redacted training log showing the completed lessons in this stage.

  3. Milestone 3

    $15,750 · 35%

    Complete advanced flight practice

Upload flight-time receipts and an instructor progress summary covering the navigation and practice sessions funded here.

  4. Milestone 4

    $9,000 · 20%

    Prepare for final assessment

Post assessment booking or payment records, final practice invoices and a redacted update on your training status.

  1. 01

    Make every step provable

A milestone only works if a Backer can look at your proof and agree it is done. 'Buy equipment' is weak; 'equipment bought, receipt and photo posted' is strong.

  2. 02

    Order by risk

Put the cheapest, fastest step first. Each released milestone proves you deliver and funds the next. Leave the biggest amount for the step where most of the work is already done.

  3. 03

    Keep the amounts honest

Milestones must add up exactly to your goal. Price each step from real quotes, include tools and services, and split any step that is too big to prove in one go.

Risks to plan for

  • R1

    Weather interrupts flying

Poor weather can cancel booked lessons and extend training. Use completion windows rather than fixed flight dates, and include travel flexibility in the relevant milestones.

  • R2

    More practice is needed

The planned flight hours may not be enough to reach assessment readiness. Base the budget on a training estimate and explain how extra practice would affect the final two stages.

  • R3

    Aircraft availability changes

Maintenance or instructor scheduling can interrupt access to the training aircraft. Confirm booking arrangements early and leave space between flight blocks before assessment bookings.

How Backers are protected

14-day review per milestone

When proof is posted, each Backer has 14 days to release their share or ask for more. Money not released in time goes back to the Backer.

15% fee, deducted — never added

Backers pay exactly what they choose. The 15% fee comes out of each backing: $100 gives the Dreamer $85. The fee is kept if money is returned.

Gifts, not shares

Backings are gifts. No shares, equity, interest or repayment, and Dreamers keep full ownership. Nothing on cohero is an investment or a loan.

Questions and answers

Can I promise to earn the licence by a fixed date?

Avoid making a licence date a guaranteed outcome. Weather, aircraft access and assessment readiness can change the schedule. Set out the training stages you intend to fund and explain how you will report delays to Backers.

How many milestones should a pilot training dream have?

Three to six works for most dreams. Fewer gives Backers little to review; more than seven makes each step feel small. The example plan on this page uses four.

How can I prove flight training without sharing my full logbook?

Post paid aircraft and instructor invoices with a redacted summary of the relevant training entries. Hide identity numbers and other personal details while keeping lesson dates and the funded training activity understandable.
