- 01
Price from quotes, not hopes
Get at least two quotes for every large cost and note what is included. Backers rarely mind a high goal; they mind a goal that looks invented.
- 02
Plan for what you receive
The platform fee is deducted from each backing, so you receive 85% of what Backers give. Set the goal so that amount covers your real costs.
- 03
Add a small buffer
Prices move. A buffer of five to ten percent in your last milestone covers surprises without making the goal look padded. Say so openly in your story.
Example milestone plan
An example plan for a youth center dream with a goal of $28,000. Backers fund the whole goal, but each milestone's money stays held until you post the proof and Backers release it.
Milestone 1
$5,600 · 20%
Secure space and layout
Post the space-use agreement, measured activity layout and setup checklist, with personal contact details hidden.
Milestone 2
$9,800 · 35%
Prepare activity rooms
Share dated room preparation photos, work receipts and a checklist covering the completed activity and welcome areas.
Milestone 3
$8,400 · 30%
Equip supervised sessions
Post equipment receipts, storage photos and a session resource inventory, without including identifiable young people.
Milestone 4
$4,200 · 15%
Run programme trial
Share an anonymised pilot summary, the session timetable and a staff briefing checklist without participant details.
Risks to plan for
- R1
Space access changes
Shared premises may offer fewer hours than the planned programme needs. Confirm session access in the first milestone and choose fittings that can move if the room allocation changes.
- R2
Equipment lacks supervision
Activity purchases can outpace the team available to run sessions. Match the equipment list to a documented supervision plan and budget for delivery time before expanding the programme.
- R3
Low trial attendance
A proposed timetable may clash with school or transport routines. Gather schedule feedback before the trial and reserve materials funds for adapting the initial session programme.
How Backers are protected
14-day review per milestone
When proof is posted, each Backer has 14 days to release their share or ask for more. Money not released in time goes back to the Backer.
15% fee, deducted — never added
Backers pay exactly what they choose. The 15% fee comes out of each backing: $100 gives the Dreamer $85. The fee is kept if money is returned.
Gifts, not shares
Backings are gifts. No shares, equity, interest or repayment, and Dreamers keep full ownership. Nothing on cohero is an investment or a loan.
Questions and answers
Can the dream cover a youth center in a shared venue?
A shared venue can be the project scope if access hours, storage and setup duties are clear. Show the space agreement first, then fund portable equipment and a trial timetable that fits the room’s confirmed availability.
How can we show activity proof while protecting young people?
Use empty-room photos, equipment inventories and anonymised session summaries. Report what activities ran and what changed after the trial without sharing names, attendance sheets or identifiable participant images.
Should my goal include the platform fee?
Yes. The fee is taken from the backing, never added for the Backer. With a goal of $28,000, you receive $23,800 once everything is released.
