How Backers are protected
14-day review per milestone
When proof is posted, each Backer has 14 days to release their share or ask for more. Money not released in time goes back to the Backer.
15% fee, deducted — never added
Backers pay exactly what they choose. The 15% fee comes out of each backing: $100 gives the Dreamer $85. The fee is kept if money is returned.
Gifts, not shares
Backings are gifts. No shares, equity, interest or repayment, and Dreamers keep full ownership. Nothing on cohero is an investment or a loan.
- 01
Before you back
Read the story and the milestones. Check that the amounts add up and that each step has something concrete to prove. If anything is unclear, ask in chat first.
- 02
While the dream runs
Your backing is split across the milestones. When proof is posted you are notified and can release your share or ask for more. You can back anonymously.
- 03
If something goes wrong
If you do not release a milestone in time, the money still held for it and later steps comes back to you, minus the fee. You can report a dream or block a user at any time.
Example milestone plan
An example plan for a home studio dream with a goal of $6,500. Backers fund the whole goal, but each milestone's money stays held until you post the proof and Backers release it.
Milestone 1
$2,275 · 35%
Install the recording chain
Post equipment receipts, setup photographs and an initial test recording showing the core recording chain is installed.
Milestone 2
$1,950 · 30%
Treat and measure room
Share treatment photographs, material receipts and before-and-after room measurements taken from matching positions.
Milestone 3
$1,300 · 20%
Integrate software and monitoring
Post routing screenshots, monitoring checks and a session file view showing the recording tools work together.
Milestone 4
$975 · 15%
Complete a studio test session
Share an unprocessed recording excerpt, session notes and a final setup checklist demonstrating the studio in use.
Risks to plan for
- R1
Room noise stays audible
Traffic or household noise may remain after basic treatment. Test recording times and microphone placement first, then budget practical noise reduction without assuming panels provide sound isolation.
- R2
Equipment does not integrate
Connections, drivers or input counts may not suit the planned sessions. Map the signal chain before buying and include compatibility tests and essential adapters in the installation milestone.
- R3
Treatment misses the problem
Decorative panels may not address the room issues that affect monitoring. Record baseline measurements, place treatment deliberately and reserve part of that budget for changes after retesting.
Questions and answers
Can I build a home studio in a rented room?
Plan around the space you can actually use and any limits on changes to it. Freestanding treatment and removable routing may suit the setup; show the layout, noise tests and installation approach before funding permanent alterations.
Can I see how my money was used?
Yes. Each milestone shows the Dreamer's proof, how much is held and how much is released. You only release money for milestones you have reviewed yourself.
Should I buy microphones or treat the room first?
Start by testing what the room and your existing equipment can capture. Use those results to choose a modest recording chain and targeted treatment, then show Backers comparable recordings rather than relying on equipment specifications alone.
